Affiliate Marketing is basically online commission sales. Let's say Merchant ABC sells vacuum cleaners. Assume that the merchant has an affiliate program. To earn from affiliate sales of the product, you have to join the merchant's program, set up a website and promote their product online. When a visitor visits your site, if he buys the product, then you earn a commission - a part of the sale.
Most online merchants these days have an affiliate program. Amazon was one of the first merchants to come out with this program.
One of the key advantages of affiliate marketing is the passive income that comes with it. Don't get me wrong here - you do need to put in some hard yards (especially in the initial days) and once the ground work is done, you earn even when you are not working. Some one can visit your site when you are sleeping or when you are holidaying and purchase a product. And you earn a commission every time there is a sale.
The first step of affiliate marketing is to identify a niche - example: weight loss, books, technical goods etc. Make sure there are some good affiliate programs for the niche you select. Once you finalise on the niche, the next step is to set a website. Wordpress would be my recommendation for setting up new sites. It makes the whole process nice and easy - not very technical at all.
When the site is all ready, you can move to marketing the site. Marketing is slow process - you need to get your site to the first page on Google and only then more visitors will visit your site. Be consistent with your efforts and do the right things to get a good ranking.
